Healthy Eating in Reception
As part of our ‘Healthy Eating’ Topic Stephen from Asda brought in some fruit for the children to taste. The children used their senses to feel, look at, smell and taste the different fruits. The children enjoyed trying something new to eat and could say which fruits they liked or disliked. We tried pineapple, mango, avocado, pomegranate, blueberries, kiwi fruit and passion fruit.
The children did life drawings and paintings of these fruits ad enjoyed mixing paints to make the colours. The children learnt how to use money by pretending to buy and sell fruit in the market role play and wrote shopping lists.
The children enjoyed planting seeds of fruit and vegetables in the garden area and remembering to water them to watch them grow and eat them.
The children made graphs of their favourite fruits and brought in fruit from home for ‘Show and Tell’. We made fruit milkshakes at snacktime and had a fruit picnic outside. The children received ‘Healthy Eating’ certificates for trying new healthy foods.
