Farmhouse Breakfast WeekCarlton Road
The morning of Friday 26th January was an early start for some children. A few lucky children from Year 3 and 4 were selected to take part in the Farmhouse Breakfast Week at Lincolnshire Showground. We left school at 8am and travelled all the way to Lincoln ready to learn about the importance of healthy breakfasts and how important farming is in Lincolnshire to help us eat well.
We had the opportunity to make our own healthy breakfasts, including making porridge, smoothies and omelettes. We also got to inspect a real tractor, classify different eggs by weighing them and cook our breakfasts! There were three of them to make! We started the morning by creating a smoothie; we had to wash, chop up and blend carrots, apples, apple juice and ginger to make a smoothie to our own specifications. We then weighed and cooked porridge for everyone, there were lots of healthy toppings to choose from, as we were so hungry, we got to have seconds and even thirds! Using the eggs that we had already weighed, we made omelettes and cooked them to have with our bacon sandwiches! It was a delicious morning! We learnt so much about where food comes from, how to use it to create meals and how food ends up in our shops for us to buy.
The children were very inspired about cooking their own healthy meals and promised to take that knowledge home to inform their families. They were so well behaved that the children even got to take home a free box of free range eggs!
