‘Maths on the Move’

This week the Year 1 children were lucky enough to have a session with the discovery sport team. The session they took part in was called ‘Maths on the Move’. The children had to use their mathematic knowledge and use it whilst completing some sport activities. In this session, the children looked at shapes. They moved around the shapes that were made on the floor with a stick and ball or bat and bean bag. The children then had to work as a team using themselves to make the shapes on the floor. Some great teamwork and shape knowledge seen. Well done Owls & Hedgehogs!

We have now been back in school for almost a whole term, and it has been wonderful to have the children in school learning again.

Being in school every day is so important and school attendance is a big part of our culture at Carlton Road Academy, but why is it so important?

All parents want the best for their children and for them to get on well in life. Having a good education is important to ensure that they have the best opportunities in their adult lives. They only get one chance at school, and your child’s future may be affected by not attending school regularly. If children do not attend school regularly, they may:

Struggle to keep up with their learning. In a busy school day it is difficult for schools to find the extra time to help a child catch up.

Miss out on the social side of school life. Poor attendance can affect children’s abilities to make and keep friendships; a vital part of growing up.

Have less chance of securing a job when they are adults.
