Year 2 Art Week

Year 2 Art Week

Jenny2021-03-26T16:20:05+00:00

This week in year 2 it’s Art Week. Over the week we looked at the abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky. We mixed primary colours and painted concentric circles in order to create our own Kandinsky style abstract art. Then we looked at the abstract artist Paul Klee. The children followed a video to create their own abstract ‘cat’ and used cool shades of water colours to paint it. Our next artist was Ted Harrison. He is a British painter who painted in Canada. He used tints and shades to make landscapes pictures just focusing on the lines and not the objects he could see. Our final Art lesson was based on Jackson Pollock who invented drip painting. As you can imagine, the children loved this style of painting as it was very inclusive and everybody could have a go. We made some fantastic collaborative abstract art! Fantastic work Year 2! #aspire #artweek #kandinksy #paulklee #tedharrison #jacksonpollock

Jenny2021-03-25T16:08:26+00:00

On Friday 19th March, Carlton Road Academy celebrated Red Nose Day. The children had to wear as much red as possible and used a red balloon to make a red nose. They took their red balloon around the track to complete their ‘Red Mile’. We all had a fantastic day and raised lots of money for comic relief!

The Great Fire of London

Jenny2021-03-10T11:58:29+00:00

Year 1 had a tasty introduction to ‘The Great Fire of London’ topic. The Owls and Hedgehogs had fun during their taster session of baked goods. This was a very suitable introduction to the topic because the fire started in a bakery. The children enjoyed tasting the different products and how they differ in texture and taste.

World Book Day

Jenny2021-03-18T13:02:55+00:00

World Book Day this year was slightly different as we had some of our children learning from home, although, we still had an amazing day both at home and in school! We had a fantastic range of costumes, including some words such as nocturnal, synonym and fragile, as well as some of our favourite book characters. The children completed various activities related to the class book they were given and even got to see their friends, working from home, on a Zoom call! The children made us so proud as they celebrated reading and produced some amazing work. Happy World Book Day!

Police Investigation Day

Jenny2021-03-04T11:35:42+00:00

This week in Reception, we had a Police Investigation Day. When the children came into school, they noticed that overnight someone had been into the classroom and had eaten all of Miss Thompson’s biscuits. We asked the Police for some help but they were a bit busy so they asked the children if they could try to solve the crime by looking for clues and finding evidence. So the Monkeys and Giraffes became detectives. They took part in lots of Police related activities including taking finger prints, looking for clues and writing evidence, making name badges and police hats. The children loved solving the crime and had so much fun!
