Salt Dough in Year 2

Salt Dough in Year 2

Jenny2020-09-25T11:01:43+01:00

This afternoon the Squirrels and Rabbits have been busy making their very own United Kingdom out of salt dough. We will be looking at all the human and physical features in the United Kingdom, particularly in Lincolnshire. Ask your children what countries are in the UK and what seas are surround it.

They have created some brilliant work. Well done Rabbits and Squirrels.

A great start back……

The Hedgehogs were very excited to explore a time capsule today. They met Edward Bear and then enjoyed playing with old toys and games. This was the launch of our topic ‘Time Tardis’.

The Rabbits have been practicing their jumping skills in PE this afternoon. They have been jumping with 2 feet, starting off on 1 foot and running and jumping. Excellent work rabbits, keep it up!

Year 4 Tigers We have been learning about internet safety, looking at what we need to keep safe. We created our own t shirts for private and public sharing.

Year 4 Tigers We have been looking at newspaper headlines this week and today we had to experiment with our English language skills to make our own headlines for some different newspaper photographs.

Reading at Carlton Road Academy

Jenny2020-09-23T10:47:13+01:00

Reading at Carlton Road Academy
Reading is of the highest importance at Carlton Road Academy; it is the key to the rest of the curriculum. As such, we encourage all children to read for at least ten minutes every day.

Every child will have at least two books:

A book to read that they have chosen:
Your child will be given the opportunity to choose a book that they are interested in. It is a book that they have chosen for themselves, but we would not necessarily expect them to read it independently. Instead we ask that you read it with them, encourage them to look at the pictures and discuss what is going on. You may want to ask them questions about it and predict the ending or talk about the topic.

A book-banded book:
Your child will also be given a book that is ‘book-banded’. This simply means that your child’s reading age/level has been assessed and matched to books that your child will be able to read the majority of, independently.

If your child is an early reader, then he/she will also be given a phonetically decodable book. This will be a book that is matched to the child’s individual phonic capability, which means they should be able to read it independently. However, we would still encourage you, the parents/carers, to listen to your child, prompting where necessary.
