As part of our People Who Help Us topic the police visited us. They told us about their job of helping and keeping us safe and making sure people follow the rules. They told us ways to keep safe, stranger danger and what to do it you get lost. The children have been practising their full name and address which they may need if there was an emergency. The role of the police was discussed as well as their uniform, equipment and vehicles. The children enjoyed trying on their uniform, doing fingerprints and looking at the police car and listening to the siren. The children are making their own representations of the police car.
Blast Off!!! Some of the Year 5 girls travelled to Boston High School to take part in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) day. Here they had to do a number of activities that included dropping a balloon from a balcony and designing a rocket to take off. They had to then test the rocket by seeing how high and far it would take off. This involved attaching it to a pump and blasting it off into the air! The girls had to design and create the rocket before ensuring it was ready for testing. Both groups of children did fantastically well and showed some of our school values; achievement, pride, and resilience to name just a few. They also showed some brilliant teamwork and leadership skills too! Perhaps there are some budding STEM innovators within our ranks! The girls had great fun and did amazingly well. Well done girls! We are proud of you!
Year 5 Mayan WOW day! To start off our topic – A Rough Guide to Mexico – we kicked off our last term with a carousel of activities. We were making hieroglyphics, researching facts on the Ancient Mayan civilisation, finding out where Mexico was and trying the number system out. We also tucked into some maya chocolate, tortilla chips and some salsa. We had a great day and have really got stuck into this topic so far!
Today we looked at why people celebrate Pancake Day/ Shrove Tuesday and about a Lent and Easter. After designing their own pancake and drawing what topping they would like, they wrote a list of ingredients and equipment. The children then listened to the instructions and watched how to make pancakes. They then helped to make the pancakes by breaking eggs, pouring in the ingredients, mixing the ingredients into batter and then preparing their topping and putting it on. They then enjoyed eating it. They used a knife and fork to eat the pancake and even had a go at tossing it. They then cut out and sequenced the pictures in the correct order of how to make pancakes . Well done .
Year 2 have been making their own castles. Throughout the week we have been designing our own castles using our knowledge of materials and their properties. The children worked very well in teams and they loved using the materials. They used brick, stone, wood, paper and cardboard to make their castles. Shout out Mr Lambley, our caretaker, for helping with the materials!
