Art in Year 2

Art in Year 2

Jenny2019-11-27T11:35:37+00:00

The Squirrels have been using lots of different techniques in art this week to creat a piece of art you might see in a rainforest home. We tie dyed napkins with natural dye and then used coffee to block print patterns. We are going to sew sequins on next week and attach them together to make a unique piece of art work.

Yesterday The Squirrels learnt a new skill! We learnt to sew! We threaded the cotton through the needle, tied a knot in the bottom and all sewed 2 sequins onto our napkins. Last night Miss Edwards glued them all together to make a quilt and it is now on display in the corridor! It looks amazing!

Career Talks

Jenny2020-01-15T12:35:43+00:00

The Year 6 children have been given a career talk from a solicitor. Rachel Butler came in and spoke to us all about how she wanted to get into law and her journey into becoming a solicitor. The children were very interested and asked some great questions.

Some of our Year 6 pupils had the opportunity to meet a poet and writer called Kai Bailey. In the session, the children started to prepare their own poems in groups which they will later perform at the Sam Newson Centre. From this, a select few children will be chosen to perform their poems at London’s west end theatre.

Year 6’s have also been given a career talk from PSCOs Marie and Renata. They have spoken to the children about the journey they had through school to the job they do now. The children have also asked lots of interesting questions regarding the work they do now and have done previously. The advice they gave to our children was to achieve the best that they can which comes under our aim to “ASPIRE”

Year 6 have been given a career talk by Contract Freelance Fashion Designer Emma Turk. Emma spoke to the children about her journey into becoming a designer, the places she has visited through her work and even the celebrities she has designed for (Madonna, Julia Roberts and Renee Zellweger)! Emma also told the children about her designs that are seen in our local Asda! This has definitely given some of the children who are interested in this an idea of what they need to ASPIRE to do in the future.

This afternoon the Year 6 children have been given a career talk from Firefighter Will Kirkham who is a retained firefighter from Long Sutton. He came in to tell us all about his career as well as being an ambulance driver as part of his job. The children asked lots of interesting questions all about his jobs and his favourite part of the job.

Ancient Greece

Jenny2019-11-20T13:25:07+00:00

During art week the children researched the different types of pots that were used in Ancient Greece – as different pots had different uses. Using their research, the children designed their own pots before creating them using air-dry clay. Once the clay pots were dry, the children practised their design patterns before painting their pots using black paint.

Flag Fen

Jenny2019-11-20T12:08:07+00:00

What a lovely day we’ve had today! The year 3 pupils were impeccably behaved on today’s trip to Flag Fen. The children learnt more about our current topic, the stone age, and built on their existing knowledge. We had a lovely finish to the day, sitting in a roundhouse with a lit fire, being told a story. We are extremely proud of our children as they shared their previous learning with others and were very confident with this. Here are a few photos……
