Chicks

Chicks

Jenny2019-04-25T13:13:12+01:00

Before the Easter holidays our nursery had a visit from a hen called Mavis, the children from both Reception classes and Nursery were all excited to visit Mavis. They were even more excited to discover that Mavis left some eggs for us to look after. We placed the eggs in an incubator and after the Easter holidays were delighted to find that some of the eggs had hatched. The children were watching the remaining eggs hatch, they observed that the chicks were wet and sticky so we were unable to hold them. The following day the children were able to hold the chicks and we are now going to watch them grow.

Healthy Eating in Reception

Jenny2019-04-25T12:26:46+01:00

As part of our ‘Healthy Eating’ Topic Stephen from Asda brought in some fruit for the children to taste. The children used their senses to feel, look at, smell and taste the different fruits. The children enjoyed trying something new to eat and could say which fruits they liked or disliked. We tried pineapple, mango, avocado, pomegranate, blueberries, kiwi fruit and passion fruit.

The children did life drawings and paintings of these fruits ad enjoyed mixing paints to make the colours. The children learnt how to use money by pretending to buy and sell fruit in the market role play and wrote shopping lists.

The children enjoyed planting seeds of fruit and vegetables in the garden area and remembering to water them to watch them grow and eat them.

The children made graphs of their favourite fruits and brought in fruit from home for ‘Show and Tell’. We made fruit milkshakes at snacktime and had a fruit picnic outside. The children received ‘Healthy Eating’ certificates for trying new healthy foods.

Easter in Reception

Jenny2019-04-25T12:18:23+01:00

When it was Easter the Reception children took part in lots of Easter crafts. They made Easter chocolate nests and learnt the Easter story about Jesus and looked at the traditions of celebrating Easter.
The Easter bunny visited and left us a letter. The letter told us that she had left us some clues to follow to find some Easter eggs.
The children have been working very hard on their phonics so they could read the clues which led us to find eggs which led us to more clues. The Easter egg hunt clues took us all around the school and into the office where we were told to take some baskets and go into our outdoor area and work with a friend to find as many eggs as we could.
The children were very excited and did very well at finding all the eggs. We then went inside and counted the eggs and wrote the amount on the whiteboard. We found out who had found the most and then shared the eggs fairly to eat.

Fire Fighter Visit to Reception

Jenny2019-04-03T09:28:58+01:00

Reception were visited by Boston Fire Station. They talked to us about fire safety, showed us their uniform and explained what equipment they use. One of the children even got to try the uniform on! The children then had a chance to ask questions and look at the fire engine outside and examined the different equipment used to help the firemen when they are called to fires, car accidents and other incidents. The firefighters gave the children some homework to do:
1. Where is the smoke alarm in your house? (Every house should have a least one) 2. Check with your parents that the smoke alarm works. (This should be checked regularly) 3. Practise what to do if there is a fire in the home. A suggested plan from the firefighters was to crawl along the floor shouting FIRE to a grown up and then to all hold hands and leave together. The children listened very carefully to the information given by the firefighters and many parents then used this as a good opportunity to discuss fire safety with their child at home. There is additional fire safety information on the Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue service website.
The main thing worth mentioning about “ Provigil” we always note to our patients – there is a risk for skin or hypersensitivity reactions. Due to this it is recommended by the European Medicine Agency to use it as treatment only for narcolepsy. In order to provigilpro.com prevent the risks please consult with your attending doctor and avoid daily usage of this pills.

Science Week in Lions

Jenny2019-04-03T09:20:30+01:00

During science week, the year 3 Lions class built dams out of sugar cubes.
We looked into water absorption and who would make the best, most effective dam for keeping water out. The children tested three different colours of the water, they tested the different amounts of water and they tested the different materials they would use to block the water absorption.
The children really enjoyed all of their testing and reading stories about dams.
