Anti-Bullying

Anti-Bullying

Jenny2018-11-29T10:50:21+00:00

After working with PC Tim, the mini-police were given the task of planning and delivering an assembly for KS2 based on the theme of anti-bullying. The children worked in groups to speak about the different types of bullying that children may face and gave advice for how to stand up to bullies. This important message links to the work that is done in school relating to all aspects of bullying and it is important that the children are aware.
Well done, mini-police!

Able Writers

Jenny2018-11-28T11:15:24+00:00

On the 20th November 2018, 4 students from Carlton Road Academy (from the year groups of year 5 and 6) were specially picked to the meet the author, G.P. Tayler, at Pioneers school. The day began when the 4 pupils where brought to the schools minivan and then taken to the Pioneers school. They put their coats and lunches into little lockers attached to the class room they brought in. After a while waiting for fellow schools who also had this opportunity, Tayler, who introduced himself as Greyson, began the first activity. The day began with stories which shared laughs throughout the room. He asked questions about fears and why closest are scary. But half way through his stories he said, you are actually learning. The morning was done and the children where brought outside for 5 minutes, though it was cold and most of the children stayed together. They were then brought inside to continue with the story sharing. Soon it was time for their lunch, they got the chance to buy one of his books, and get a signature from him in it. After lunch they wrote a character card (describing a character or person and used to help with writing) and they got challenged to use their character card in the beginning of a story. They talked about Describing character and even they got asked questions about settings, by given different moods etc. They ended the day with a scary story, about a big black dog… with red eyes who was told to be the murderer of person named Marys grandmother. After the story the 4 went back to school just a few minutes before the end of the day.

Memorial Service

Jenny2018-11-28T11:36:09+00:00

On Friday 9th November all of our year 6 children attended a memorial service which was held at the town’s war memorial in Wide Bargate.
The children had designed and made their own wreaths and written messages and poems to commemorate and remember all those who gave their lives.
The children then made their way back to school through Central Park where they were given a small wooden cross to plant, each one inscribed with the name of a soldier who had fought and died during the Great War.

Year 3 Flag Fen

Jenny2018-11-28T11:23:00+00:00

On the 22nd November, the children in Year 3 went to Flag Fen in Peterborough for the day. They learnt all about Prehistoric Britain. The children were able to place different time zones on a time line and gain a firm understanding of when people started to roam the earth. After that, the children made their own clay pots using natural materials that they would find on their walks. During the trip, the children went to look at real life Bronze Age boats and a Bronze Age bridge. Ilja said, “This is an amazing experience!” children were amazed to see things that had been dug up that are more than 3000 years old. Lastly, the children went into a real Bronze Age round house and all the children listened to a legend story from prehistoric times. All the children made a wish and they really enjoyed the experience. Everyone had an amazing day!

The ladies at Flag Fen said that our children were amazing and a credit to the teachers and the school. With wonderful behaviour and outstanding knowledge of the prehistoric top, they were all involved and willing to take part in the hands on activities.

Children In Need

Jenny2018-11-28T10:19:41+00:00

On Friday 16th November 2018, all the Children at Carlton Road Academy took part in fundraising for Children In Need. The theme was to dress up and dress fancy for the day. All children came to school dressed in their dresses, bling, tiaras and suits. The day was packed with fun activities. Everyone, even the teachers looked really GREAT dressed in their fancy wear.

Throughout the day children turned their Big Pudsey into something fancy, later to be displayed in school. Children had a Fun Fancy afternoon filled with crafts, film, food and of course lots of fun!!

Pudsey came to visit our school too and helped to pick out the fanciest children in school. As a school we raised £460.00 for a great cause, Children in Need. Thank you for all your kindness and donations, roll on 2019!
