St Botolph’s Church

St Botolph’s Church

Carlton Road2017-12-05T15:22:51+00:00

On Tuesday 21st November the Rabbits and the Squirrels walked to St Botolph’s church. As part of our topic, Street Detectives, we have been learning about how Boston has changed from the past and the present.

We were met at the church by Reverend Steve who welcomed us to the church and told us all about the parade that was happening on the 23rd November for the Christmas light switch on. We then got into groups to meet our tour guides who showed us all around St Botolph’s Church. We learnt about the history of the church and looked at amazing artefacts inside and outside the church.

Later on we were able to join in a treasure hunt to look for some of the artefacts we had learnt about. It was very exciting to learn how important St Botolph’s church has been to Boston over the years and we learnt a lot about the history of Boston as well. We have written a non-chronological report in our topic books all about the information we learnt.

Monkeys Shape Hunt

Carlton Road2017-11-29T11:51:22+00:00

This week in the Monkeys Class we have been learning about 2D (flat) shapes. One of our activities was to go on a shape hunt around school. We were looking for circles, squares, rectangles, triangles, hexagons and ovals. Every time we found one of those shapes we put a sticker on the relevant shape on our sheet. We found lots of things that were rectangle shapes but only one table that was a hexagon shape.

Carlton Road2017-11-24T09:32:28+00:00

On the 21st of November, Year 5 went on a trip to the National Space Centre in Leicester. While we were there, we had the opportunity to learn all about the planets and gravity. We even climbed up a 42 metre high space rocket and got the chance to feel what it was like to wear an astronaut’s space suit!
We took part in an exciting ‘tour of the night sky’ workshop, and learnt all about the names of the constellations that we can see at night time.
We will be using lots of the knowledge that we gained to help us with our science topic of space, and during our writing in literacy lessons.

On Wednesday 22nd November, 23 Mini Police volunteers from Carlton Road Academy and Staniland Academy took part in a First Aid lesson with St Johns Ambulance. This is part of the BBC Radio Lincolnshire ‘Save A Life’ campaign.
I used to go in for sports, but because of the injury, I could not do it. After some time, I started to get muscle spasms, as I completely refused to sports and proper nutrition.
The Mini Police were taught how to deal with casualties, what to do in an emergency and how to perform CPR on adults, children and babies.

Children worked very hard to understand the different food groups looking at what was healthy and what they needed to eat to help their bodies grow and stay fit. In the afternoon, children took part in some fitness activities, learning what they could do to keep their muscles fit and working properly. The children had a great time going around and doing all the activities.

Children In Need

Carlton Road2017-11-23T12:06:05+00:00

On Friday 17th November 2017, all the children at Carlton Road Academy took part in the fundraising for Children in Need. The theme was to be WILD for the day. All children came to school dressed as a wild animal. The day was packed with fun activities. Everyone, even the teachers looked really GREEEAT! Dressed as their wild creatures.

Throughout the day, children turned their Pudsey into an animal and they even played a game of ‘guess the teacher’. All the teachers looked a little bit different! Some were crocodiles, some were apes and some were elephants too.

Also the Pupils’ Parliament organised and ran a toy and book sale that was very successful. Lastly, they also were selling cakes and biscuits that they had worked hard to prepare, by the end of the day … NOTHING was left! Children in Need 2017, was a VERY successful day!

Carlton Road2017-11-23T11:51:14+00:00

On the Wednesday 22nd November, the children in Year 3 went to Flag Fen in Peterborough for the day. They learnt all about Prehistoric Britain. The children were able to place different time zones on a time line and gain a firm understanding of when people started to roam the earth. After that, the children made their own clay pots using natural materials that they would find on their walks.

During the trip, the children went to look at real life Bronze Age boats and a Bronze Age bridge. Jack said, “This is an amazing experience!” children were amazed to see things that had been dug up that are more than 3000 years old.

Lastly, the children went into a real Bronze Age round house and all the children listened to a legend story from prehistoric times. All the children made a wish and they really enjoyed the experience. Everyone had an amazing day!
